Am I a Group A or Group B applicant?
For 2027 Ontario university admission, OUAC currently defines the groups this way:
Group A
You are Group A only if all 3 conditions are true:
- You are currently taking at least one Ontario high school course;
- You will be under 21 on December 31, 2026; and
- You have an OSSD or are working toward an OSSD with six 4U/M courses.
Group B
You are Group B if you do not meet all of the Group A conditions.
OUAC specifically gives these examples of Group B applicants:
- International applicants
- Canadian students outside Ontario
- Students who are not currently taking an Ontario high school course
- Postsecondary transfer students
- Mature applicants
- Students aged 21 or older who are taking an Ontario high school course
Important for Toronto eLearning School students
If a student is currently enrolled in Toronto eLearning School and taking Ontario courses, is under 21, and is working toward an OSSD with six 4U/M courses, they can meet the Group A criteria.
If the student is an international applicant but is studying Ontario OSSD courses through Toronto eLearning School, being international by itself does not automatically make them Group B. The three Group A conditions above are what matter. OUAC’s application is designed to determine the group automatically.
For 2027, the practical difference is significant: Group A’s OUAC application deadline is January 15, 2027, while Group B has no single OUAC deadline; deadlines vary by university and program.
